Bearbrass on TV!

Bearbrass Asylum Orchestra will be making their very first television appearance on No Limits on Channel 31 at 9pm on Friday 2nd January 2015. No Limits is an institution in Australian disability culture, and features all the latest news, views and events from the disability world. This episode features footage from the Quippings Freaktastic Fringe Show and will include the band playing One of Us, the awesome poetry of Andy Jackson and stand up comedy from Jarrod Marrinon. Tribute to Stella Young

This Friday, we will be performing at a very special Quippings dedicated to the irreplaceable Stella Young. Stella recently passed away, and proceeds from tickets at the door will go to Domestic Violence Victoria, which is the chosen charity of Stella's family.

We will be joined with friends of Stella, and they will read selected works and provide tributes. Make sure you come along to celebrate the life of Stella in a manner we know that she would love.

Emerald Hill Festival

The Emerald Hill Festival is a collaboration between Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), Arts Access Victoria, Australian Tapestry Workshop, Emerald Hill Library & Heritage Centre, Multicultural Arts Victoria and the South Melbourne Police. The one day event takes place in and around South Melbourne Town Hall. We'll be performing at the Nebula performance space (pictured), a unique portable venue designed specifically with disability access in mind. We're on at 10am, so we'll see you all bright and early.

Where: Nebula Performance Space, near Arts Access Victoria, 222 Bank St South Melbourne.
When: 10am, Sunday 9 November 2014.

Nebula is a fully accessible, portable performance space. We'll be performing there as part of the Emerald Hill Festival at 10 am on Sunday 9 November.

Quippings Freaktastic Fringe at the Spiegeltent

We are going internally berzerk at the thought of playing at the Spiegeltent with out mates from the Quippings crew. We'll be exploring all things freaky from the 1-5 October as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival. All your Quippings favourites will be there, including host Jax Brown, Stella Young, Emma J Hawkins and Carly Findlay. So come and get your freak on and join us at the fabulous Spiegeltent.

Pirates with Attitude

Ahoy there me hearties! We'll be entertaining the crowds at Pirates with Attitude, an all-abilities version of Pirates of Penzance produced by the Dandenong Ranges Music Council, held at the fabulous Burrinja Black Box Theatre. The show starts at 2pm on Saturday 28 June but we'll be playing a few shanties in the foyer from 1.30pm, so make sure you arrive early, you scurvy dogs.

Where: Burrinja Black Box Theatre, 351 Glenfern Rd Upwey.
When: Saturday 28 June, show starts at 2pm, but we'll be playing from 1.30pm.

Quippings, Winter 2014

It's getting cold here in sunny Melbourne, so come and warm yourself in Fitzroy's favourite bookshop, Hares and Hyenas and spend an evening with the fabulous Quippings crew. Hosted by Jax Brown, Quippings is a night of burlesque, spoken word and cabaret dedicated to the twin themes of sex and disability. It's a space where anything goes, and is definitely not one to bring the kids to. We're also going to road test a few new songs that we've written for our upcoming album.

Real Women - A Celebration of Female Performers with Disability.

International Women's Day is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than by watching a bunch of feisty crip chicks strut their stuff? We'll be performing with Stella Young, Eva Sifis, Emma J Hawkins (pictured below), Jax Jacki Brown, Anna Seymour, Zhen Chew and lots more. Tickets are selling fast so make sure you get in early.

H.O.P. Fundraiser

The HOP Community Centre is a cool new space in Reservoir which will be opening in February. It will feature a library, community garden, bike workshop and performing spaces. We'll be performing at their fundraising concert this Saturday, so come along, check out the new centre and see some fantastic performances.

Quippings Midsumma Special - Starring Stella Young

Midsumma is here, and Quippings is celebrating Melbourne's annual festival of queer culture with an evening of hot, bent entertainment. We'll be performing and there'll even be a special guest performance by everyone's favourite crip, Stella Young, editor of Ramp Up and all round fabulous person. Hosted by Jax Brown, the evening will also feature Kate Hood, Carly Findlay, Kath Duncan and lots more.
